Daniel George Larkins, age 65, of Elizabethtown, PA passed away on October 7. Daniel was born on August 1, 1958, in Bayonne, NJ to parents Helen and Raymond Larkins of Jersey City where Daniel was raised along with his three siblings. He attended St. Paul's (Greenville) Grammar School, and then graduated from Hudson Catholic High School in 1976.
After being approached by many Ivy League colleges and universities, Daniel chose Columbia University where he studied Sociology. Upon graduation from Rutgers Law School, he went on to practice personal injury law for over twenty years. In this work, he advocated for the injured against those who wronged them. These David and Goliath efforts were a lifelong passion.
The greatest joy of Daniel's life was becoming a dad in 1987, when his son Danny was born. The family settled in Manalapan, NJ where Daniel became active in local politics. Daniel bridged his love of family and sports when he thoughtfully coached over twenty of his son's baseball and basketball teams. A tactician on the court, he took pride in having learned basketball from Hall of Fame coach, Bobby Hurley. In 2011, he met his future wife, Kathie. Filled with warmth and laughter, their relationship was mutually supportive.
Daniel was a coach, husband, dad, grandpa, brother, brother-in-law, environmental commissioner, a planning board member, a Knight of Columbus, a mayoral candidate, tutor, unashamed socialist, and mentor. In all things, Daniel put others before himself. When the opportunity arose to serve others in a hands-on way, Daniel became a social worker at Keystone Human Services. Guiding dozens of disadvantaged folks to employment success brought him great joy.
Grieving for their loss include his wife Kathie Larkins; his step-children, Franklyn Davis, Gabrielle Davis, Brandon Davis, Dale Davis; his step-grandchildren, Izaak McQuait, Izaiah McQuiat, and Xavier Gilliland; his siblings, Robert J. Larkins, Martha Larkins, and Alice Larkins Travis; his brothers-in-law William Vasil and David Travis; his nieces and nephews, Rob Larkins, Joseph Larkins, Aurora Vasil, and Celeste Vasil; his son, Danny Larkins, and daughter-in-law, Zeynep Uzumcu; as well as cousins, friends and countless others whose lives he touched.
