Wilmer G. Burkhart, 76, of Denver, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024, at home in the loving presence of his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Ephrata, Wil was a son of the late John H. and Ruth (Good) Burkhart and the devoted husband to Maryann (Zajac) Burkhart for 33 years.
Wil grew up in Reinholds, a Cocalico High School graduate, class of 1965 where he earned his nickname, Flash, for his flashy flair and style. Wil owned and operated Pleasant Valley Spas with Maryann in Ephrata for 15 years. Wil enjoyed his small business which included hot tub sales and service and he deeply valued his customers and employees. He then retired after selling the business in 2014. Wil was passionate about serving his community. He served as a former Brecknock Township Supervisor (Lancaster Co.), a member of the Cushion Peak Rod and Gun Club, a former YMCA Board Member in Adamstown, and he was elected to be a Judge to Elections in the Swartzville area. Wil was a coin collecting enthusiast. He had a vast knowledge of coin collecting and was an active member and former secretary of the Red Rose Coin Club. Faith was an important part of his life, and he was a member of LCBC Church. Wil always made himself available to help others. He was a balanced decision-maker, had a strong work ethic, put others before himself, and was well loved by everyone.
In addition to his wife, Wil is survived by son, Seth S. Burkhart (Holly) of Reinholds; and stepson, Jason Emerich (Lauren) of Wernersville; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; a sister Shirley Weaver (Paul) of Ephrata; and a brother John G. Burkhart (Ann) of Pine Grove. Will was predeceased by sister, Betty Jane Rolland and three infant siblings.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sat., June 8th at 10 a.m. in LCBC Church, Ephrata campus, 6 Hahnstown Rd., Ephrata. Seating begins at 9:30 a.m. Please wear your favorite Phillies, Eagles, or Cocalico Eagles sportswear as a tribute to Wil and his beloved teams.
