Born on July 8, 1934, in Weimer, Texas, Clarice was the daughter of the late Alfred C. and Elizabeth (Schrieffer) Sanders, and the loving wife of the late Jay E. Haws until his passing in 2000.

Clarice graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in the class of 1951, a proud achievement that marked the beginning of her enduring connection to her Texan heritage. She carried this pride with her throughout her life, embracing her identity as a very proud Texan with grace and heartfelt enthusiasm. Throughout her career, Clarice devoted her talents and work ethic to Dutchmaid Inc. in Ephrata, where she was respected and valued. Beyond her professional endeavors, she nurtured a rich tapestry of interests that brought joy to her life and to those who knew her. She was an accomplished seamstress, renowned for her skill in making clothes that reflected her keen eye for detail and artistry. Her oil paintings, focusing on serene landscapes and still life, were a testament to her creative spirit and ability to capture beauty in everyday scenes. Gardening was another of her great pleasures, particularly tending to her flowers, which flourished under her attentive care. Clarice’s involvement in her community was profound. She was a former member of Eastern Star and a member of Swamp Lutheran Church in Reinholds, where her faith and fellowship were sources of strength and comfort. Clarice’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to family, faith, and creativity. Her memory will be treasured by her family and by all who were touched by her kindness and talent.

Clarice is survived by her loving daughter, Kathleen V. (Fred L.) Hainley; her brother, Alton (Anne Davis) Sanders; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband and parents, Clarice is predeceased by her four siblings: Alfred C. Sanders Jr., Daniel Sanders, Linda Soward, and Jo Ann Sanders.
