Obituary

David E. Burkholder, 64, of Columbia, Pennsylvania, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center. Born on July 27, 1961, in Ephrata, David was a son of Paul S. & Ruth I. (Leister) Burkholder.

David was a graduate of Cocalico High School, class of 1979, where he was a champion wrestler. With a keen aptitude for all things mechanical and practical, he served his country honorably as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Stationed at New River, David worked as an aircraft mechanic and found particular enjoyment in working on helicopters. This commitment to service and technical skills formed the groundwork for his later professional life. After completing his military service, David became a self-employed professional, skilled in plumbing and various construction needs. Known by many as a “jack of all trades,” he was trusted by countless people in his community to solve problems and lend a helping hand. In addition to his professional and military accomplishments, fishing was a cherished pastime for David, providing him with peace and reflection. Yet perhaps his greatest source of happiness was spending time with his grandchildren, who brought light into his days and with whom he created memories that will be treasured forever. As an attendee of the Reamstown Church of God, he found comfort, fellowship, and meaning in his spiritual community. David will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

David is survived by his mother, Ruth I. Burkholder; two sons, Gregory Burkholder, Andrew (Kayla) Burkholder; two grandchildren, Emilia & Leeland; three siblings, Janice Bollinger, Scott (Tracy) Burkholder, and Chrystal Burkholder. David was preceded in death by his father, Paul S. Burkholder.

A visitation will be held on Friday, July 24th starting at 11:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:30 a.m. at the Reamstown Church of God, 400 Pfautz Hill Rd, Stevens, PA 17578. David’s final resting place will be at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in Annville.
