Born in Buckland, Massachusettes, he was a son of the late Horace A. and Mildred J. (Spencer) Knapp, and was the husband of Gail L. (Girard) Knapp. Don had previously been a builder and developer and owned/operated a True Value Hardware store prior to retiring. He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army during World War II.
