Doris E. Hocking, passed away on July 24, 2025, at Luther Acres, at the age of 96. Born on February 18, 1929, in Lancaster, to the late Raleigh S. & Phoebe H. (Steiner) Nies and the loving wife of the late George R. Hocking.
Doris was a graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 1946. She built a fulfilling career as a registered nurse at Lancaster General Hospital, where she dedicated her life to caring for others before retiring in 1991. Doris was not only devoted to her profession but also to her family and community. She was a life member of the Lancaster General Hospital Alumni Association and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, reflecting her lifelong commitment to serving those in need. Doris was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Ephrata, where she found solace and connection within her faith community.
Her vibrant spirit was complemented by her love for traveling, and through her journeys, she created lasting memories that enriched her life. Doris's remarkable life and loving nature will be remembered fondly by all who knew her, and her legacy will continue through the lives she touched.
Doris is survived by three children, Susan D. Lerch of Richland, John R. (Connie) Lerch of Ephrata, and David C. Lerch of Ephrata. She was a beloved grandmother to three grandchildren, Steven Hiester, Ryan, and Eric Lerch, as well as two great grandsons. Doris is also survived by her sister, Mary E. Lane. She joins those who have preceded her in death, including her grandson, Jason Hiester, and daughter-in-law, Debra Lerch.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, August 4th, starting at 11:00 AM. at Lincoln Cemetery, 1337 Apple St, Ephrata, PA 17522.
