Douglas Diem,75, of Lancaster, passed away on May 5, 2025, at Lancaster General Hospital. He was born in Ephrata to Clarence & Dorothy (Buchter) Diem.
Douglas was a mason by trade and later transitioned to a general contractor, a career in which he worked until his retirement in 2010. Known for his hard work and skillful craftsmanship, he built a reputation as a reliable and accomplished builder. He served his country during the Vietnam War. An active member of his community, he volunteered for the Rothsville Fire Company, demonstrating a commitment to enhancing the safety and well-being of those around him. Douglas had a passion for riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, a hobby that allowed him to explore the open roads. He also cherished moments spent watching his favorite sports teams, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Washington Redskins. He also spent a lot of his time at the Landis Adult Day Services to meet others and participate in events and activities. Douglas will be remembered and missed by his family and friends.
Douglas is survived by three children: Kathy Jo Diem, Jeremy (Marcia) Diem, and Christopher D. (Amy) Diem. He was a beloved father and proud grandparent to ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy and fulfillment. He is also survived by his siblings Ronald Diem, Gareth Diem, Erlene Kilhefner, Terry Diem, Patsy Mentzer, and Darven Diem.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Sue, whose memory remained a cherished part of him throughout his life.
A viewing will be held on May 10, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Gravenor Sipler Funeral Home and Cremation, located at 100 W. Main Street, Ephrata, PA 17522.
