Herman L. Thornton, 78, of East Earl, passed away on November 9, 2025, at the Gardens at Stevens. Born on July 13, 1947, in Goshen, Virginia, Herman was a son of the late Arthur A. and Dorethy L. (Miller) Thornton, and the loving husband of Rachel E. (Hostetter) Thornton for 52 years.
Herman demonstrated a remarkable work ethic throughout his life, devoting 25 years to John Ewell Trucking, where he was known for his skill and reliability as a driver and mechanic. He later owned his own truck and leased it to Daily Express. When his health no longer permitted him to drive, he worked as a mechanic for Five Star International Ideal Lease. Herman was not only committed to his career but also to his family and community. The love and dedication they showed to each other enriched the lives of everyone around them. In addition to his family commitments, Herman was an active member of the Reamstown Athletic Association, where he contributed his time and energy to support his community. Herman's legacy will be remembered fondly by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Along with his wife, Herman is survived by four children, Michael Thornton of Goshen, VA, John Thornton of Greenville, VA, Kimberly Thornton of Wilmington, NC, and Angela (Benjamin) Fulk of Waynesburg, PA, and their families; and sister, Helen Sensabaugh of Goshen, VA. Preceding him in death were his parents, Arthur A. and Dorethy L. (Miller) Thornton, and four brothers: Thelmar "Heavy" Thornton, Eugene Thornton, Roland “Ed” Thornton, and Arthur “Butch” Thornton.
