Obituary

Janet L. Stoner, 90, of Brownstown, passed away on September 26, 2026, at Maple Farm Nursing in Akron. She was born and raised in Brownstown, Pennsylvania, on January 29, 1936, to the late Samuel & Bertha (Weaver) Hoover, and the loving wife of Dale E. Stoner for 45 years before his passing in 2024.

Janet built a life centered on hard work, home, faith, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She worked as a packer at Dutchmaid for 14 years and later worked at Good and Plenty in the gift shop for 20 years. She was a devoted homemaker in spirit as well, and cooking was one of the ways she showed her love to others. She loved cooking every meal, creating the kind of daily care and comfort that families remember for years. She attended Ebenezer Evangelical Church in Brownstown, a place that reflected the faith that was part of her life. Janet also had a lively and cheerful personality that shone through in the things she enjoyed. She liked going to yard sales and enjoyed thrifting, always appreciating the fun of a good find. That enjoyment grew into a tradition of her own, as she held an annual yard sale. She was also an animal lover who dearly loved her bichons, taking her bichon, Molly with them on golf cart rides at their vacation home in Rehoboth they shared with her daughter Donna. Among her happiest memories were the places and pastimes she loved most. Janet loved Rehoboth Beach with Dale and looked forward to trips to Florida during the winter months as an annual event to gather with family and visit her daughter, Darby. She also loved going to Hollywood Casino, where she always seemed to have great luck, adding another bit of fun and excitement to her days. Janet will be remembered with love for her steady work, her generous kitchen, her affection for animals, and the happiness she found in family traditions, travel, and everyday treasures.

Janet is survived by her daughters, Darby Lapp & Donna Nash of Ephrata, Donna’s husband Vince, and her son, Danny Parkhouse of Akron; stepdaughters, Cindy Lentz of Ohio & Renee Horn of Manheim, and Renee’s husband, Steve; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Brian Royer; her stepdaughter, Tammy Slocum of Manheim; her great-grandson, Wyatt Bruns; her son-in-law, Richard Lapp; her sisters, Dorothy Diem and Dolores Hoover; and her brother, Herbert Hoover.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Gravenor Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, Inc., 100 W Main St, Ephrata, PA 17522. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
