Joan E. Horst

Joan E. Horst, 82, passed away on August 28, 2025, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. She was born on July 27, 1943, in Bareville, to the late Paul and Sylvia (Kauffman) Horst.

Joan’s educational journey included an apprenticeship in upholstery work at Kinder, a furniture manufacturer, and valuable experience in the food industry with Quinlan Pretzel, where she mastered the art of packing, baking, and twisting pretzels. Her dedication to her craft and work ethic paved the way for a life marked by industry and artistry. Beyond her work, Joan was an adventurous soul with a love for motorcycles, proudly affiliated with the Garden Spot Motorcycle Club. She enjoyed the thrill of the ride and the camaraderie that accompanied it. Joan’s creative energy also found expression in her sewing and quilting, hobbies that allowed her to bring beauty to the world around her. Moreover, she had a green thumb, delighting in the joys of gardening, nurturing plants with the same care that she extended to her loved ones. Her warmth and zest for life will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Joan was a beloved sister and an aunt, survived by her brother, Gary (Milene) Horst of Eastlake, OH, and her half-sister, Lisa Hughes (Robert) Crockett of Northeast MD. She took great joy in her relationships with her many nieces and nephews, who cherished her gentle spirit and vibrant character. Joan was predeceased by her long-time companion, Larry L. Sweigart, her twin sister, Joann Adams, and brother, Cederic "Butch" Horst.
