Obituary

Lois Jean Gockley, 85, of Denver, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2026, at her home in Denver. Born on July 19, 1940, in South Fork, Pennsylvania, Lois was a daughter of the late Joseph and Hilda (Penrod) Burkett, and the loving wife of William Gockley since 2011.

A graduate of South Fork High School, Lois’s work ethic was evident from an early age. During her high school years, she worked at The Dive just outside of Johnstown, showing a strong commitment to her responsibilities even as a young woman. Over the years, Lois expanded her professional journey through various roles, including her tenure at the Twin Kiss for many years, as well as positions at Berk-Tek Wire & Cable and the Miller and Hess Shoe Factory in Akron. Each chapter of her career reflected her perseverance and resilience. Lois’s interests extended far beyond her work life. She was a devoted crafter, with a particular expertise in crocheting. Her hands created beautiful baskets, wreaths, and a wide array of intricate crochet pieces. This passion for crafting brought her considerable joy throughout her lifetime and was an expression of her warmth and creativity. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Lois was an active member of Hopeland United Methodist Church and later embraced the community at the Church of the Nazarene, now known as Grace Church. These spiritual homes were significant in her life, providing both comfort and fellowship. Lois’s life was one of steadfast dedication—to her family, her craft, her faith, and her community. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, artistry, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will be treasured by all who loved her, and she will be profoundly missed.

Lois is survived by her husband, William Gockley; three devoted children, Mark Stallman, Matthew Stallman, and Heidi Stallman, who carry forward her legacy of love and strength. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren: Heather, Mark Jr., Courtney, Morgan, Joseph, Christopher, Austin, and Brandon, as well as three great-grandchildren; and sister, Linda Quashnie. Lois was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Joseph and Hilda (Penrod) Burkett, her son Patrick Stallman; and siblings Sandra Burkett, Janice Gressick, Ronda Gramling, Frederick Burkett, and William “Bill” Burkett.
