Marjorie N. (Goodman) Sylvis, 96, born on June 25, 1929, in Lindenhurst, New York, peacefully passed away on August 1, 2025, at Maple Farms Nursing in Akron. She was a daughter of the late Christian and Marjorie (Wood) Nelson, and the wife of the late Leonard Goodman until his passing in October of 1983, and her second late husband, H. H. Clay Sylvis until his passing in November of 2010.

A graduate of Lindenhurst High School in 1946, Marjorie furthered her education through secretarial training in New York City, equipping herself with invaluable skills that would serve her throughout her career. Marjorie's professional journey began as a secretary, wherein she demonstrated remarkable diligence and skill, ultimately rising to the esteemed position of administrative assistant to the Superintendent at the Wantagh School District in New York. Her commitment to her work and her ability to support those around her were hallmarks of her character. Beyond her professional pursuits, she cherished her time spent engaging in needlepoint projects, showcasing her creativity and craftsmanship.

Marjorie was deeply involved in her community and her faith. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in New Holland. Additionally, she participated in the Cotillion Club of Lancaster and was a proud member of the Eastern Star. Her compassion shined through by her volunteer work with Hospice of Lancaster, where she dedicated over 1,000 hours to helping others in need—a testament to her generous spirit and heart.

Marjorie found joy in her family, leaving behind three sons, Robert (Jennifer) Goodman, William (Cynthia) Goodman, and Wayne (Kristin) Goodman; four grandchildren: Andrew (Megan) Kohl, Caramie Oberholtzer, Zachary (Kierstin) Goodman, and Jessica (Paul) Kohlenberger; six great grandchildren, Lily, May, Brennen, Oliver, Abigail, and Lucas; and sister, Sandra Butera. Along with her parents, Marjorie is predeceased by a sister, Gladys Kienzlen.
