Mary Jane Schnader, 92, of Ephrata, passed away on March 27th, 2026, at Ephrata Manor. She was born on January 22, 1934, in Ephrata, to the late Floyd Z. and Florence M. (Frederick) Weidman and was the loving wife for 51 years to Gerald R. Schnader.
A graduate of Ephrata High School, class of 1952, Mary’s career was distinguished and long-lasting. She served as secretary of the former Nissley’s Propane, later TexGas, for over 25 years, demonstrating commitment and professionalism. In addition to this role, she contributed her talents to Klinefelters Insurance and the American Greetings card company, where she was known for stocking cards at local stores. Remarkably, her dedication to work extended well into her later years, as she remained active in her career until the age of 80. Mary’s life was enriched by her personal interests and passions. She delighted in attending carnivals, a joy that brought vibrancy to her days. A devoted dog lover, she cherished her beloved Labrador Retrievers for over three decades and proudly showed them, sharing this heartfelt interest with others. Her enthusiasm also extended to the thrills of NASCAR racing, reflecting her lively spirit and love for excitement. Mary’s joyful engagement with these pastimes added a meaningful dimension to her life and those around her. Mary’s life was marked by hard work, unwavering love for her family, and a spirited participation in the things she loved. She will be remembered with deep respect and affection by all who had the privilege to know her.
She is survived by her husband Gerald; two daughters, Marlene Nagle (John) and Darlene Sumner (Tim); and by her grandchildren Melissa Terrett (Craig) and Jennifer Bropst (Kyle); her five great-grandchildren: Blake, Harper, Cole, Caiden, and Carson; her sister, Shirley France; four step-daughters: Tina K. Buch (Doug) of Lancaster, Tammy Hughes (Bill) of East Earl, Terri Esbenshade, and Trudy Martin (Dwight) of New Holland; and a stepson, Richard Schnader (Karen) of East Earl. Mary was predeceased by her loving parents, Floyd Z. and Florence M. (Frederick) Weidman, and by two sisters, Betty Wolf and Dorothy Romig.
Services are private to her family. Mary’s final resting place will be at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
