Michael L. “Mick” Hunt, 76, passed away on September 22, 2025, at the Reading Hospital. In a testament to his appreciation for the medical professionals who cared for him over the years, Mick chose to honor them through a noble act; he donated his body to medical students after his passing. Born in the state of Washington, Mick was a son of the late Loren & Kathryn (Beardsley) Hunt and was the loving husband of 31 years to Jill (Sacher) Hunt.
His journey in education began when he graduated in the mid-70s from Central Washington University with a Bachelor's Degree. Throughout his career as a special education teacher, Mick worked in various locations, including Ketchikan, Alaska; Roseburg, Oregon; Holton, Kansas; and ultimately concluded his career in 2006 with the Reading School District in Pennsylvania. Mick found joy in coaching high school sports, particularly girls’ basketball, where he nurtured young athletes’ skills and confidence. Mick was not just a teacher; he was a mentor, a coach, and a guiding light for countless young individuals. Mick was proud to be a member of multiple educational organizations throughout his career, underscoring his commitment to learning and growth in the field of education. His colleagues, students, family, and friends alike remember him for his nonjudgmental and easy-going demeanor. Mick was truly a person who met others where they were, treating everyone with respect and dignity. He possessed a great sense of integrity and often preferred to work behind the scenes, dedicating himself to helping others without seeking the spotlight. Beyond his professional life, Mick was a passionate golfer, he cherished every moment spent on the course. In addition, he had a love for card games, moments filled with laughter and camaraderie shared with family and friends. Mick leaves behind a legacy of kindness, respect, and an unwavering commitment to education. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Michael is survived by son Andrew Renyer, daughter-in-law Candice, 3 granddaughters, Marley, Kendall and Avery, Roseburg, OR, a sister, Patti Hunt Beamon, Tacoma, WA, and sister-in-law Suzanne Pfaff, Elizabethtown, PA.
