Richard P. Schweitzer

October 8, 1952 — May 26, 2025

Adamstown

Richard P. Schweitzer, of Adamstown, passed away peacefully at home on May 26, 2025. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Richard and Betty (Smith) Schweitzer. Richard was the devoted husband of Vickie L. (Specht) Schweitzer, with whom he shared 37 years of marriage.

A graduate of the Cocalico High School Class of 1970, Richard went on to build a successful career spanning more than four decades. He dedicated 32 years to Case New Holland, followed by 13 years in Material Handling at Kalas. In addition to his professional endeavors, Rick proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1973 to 1975, embodying the values of service and commitment that defined his character.

Richard’s greatest joys were rooted in family and community. He was a loving father and grandfather, and took particular pride in the time he spent guiding and supporting his sons. He served as a Cubmaster for Pack 95 and an adult leader for Boy Scout Troop 61, roles he held with pride and care. Rick also supported the community as a Cocalico Youth Soccer and Baseball Coach for many years. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in bicycling, motocross, traveling to visit National Parks and Forests, and hiking. These passions brought him peace and fulfillment and indulged his love of adventure.

Richard’s legacy is one of love, hard work, and steadfast support for his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In addition to his wife, Rick is survived by two sons, Daniel J. Schweitzer (Harmony Nelson) of Grand Canyon Village, AZ, and Eric J. Schweitzer of Missoula, MT; three grandchildren, Stella, Marsali, and David; and three siblings, Steve Schweitzer (Anita) of Dallas, PA, Jean Good (Randy) of Adamstown, PA, and Mark Schweitzer (Cindy) of Reinholds, PA. He was preceded in death by his son, Benjamin K. Schweitzer.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday June 3 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 34–38 N. Reamstown Road, Reamstown (Stevens), PA 17567. A presentation by the Veteran Honor Guard and a time of sharing will follow.
