Robert “Bob” F. Frey, 78, of Adamstown passed away on October 11, 2026 surrounded by his family. Born and raised in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania, he was a 1966 graduate of South Williamsport High School and a 1970 graduate of Bloomsburg State College. Bloomsburg is where he met and fell in love with his wife of 57 years, Eileen (Sholder) Frey. The two settled in Reinholds, and eventually Adamstown, where they raised their daughters Amy (Shober) and Kerry (Gable), both of Reinholds.
Bob worked as a biologist in the Water Quality division of the PA Department of Environmental Protection for 35 years. Always the outdoorsman, he filled his time away from work with hiking and canoeing with his family, hunting, fishing, and gardening. Bob shared his love of nature by teaching his daughters and grandchildren how to fish and by serving on the board of the Northern Lancaster County Game and Fish Protective Association, where he ran the annual children’s fishing rodeo for many years.
Bob enjoyed his retirement by traveling with his wife and their friends as well as watching his grandchildren grow. Through the years, Bob could be found on many sidelines, bleachers, and theater seats, cheering on his grandchildren in their many athletic and artistic endeavors. He enjoyed many picnics and barbeques with his family, especially the part where he inevitably beat them at cards or cornhole.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents John L. & Kathryn Frey, of South Williamsport, Pennsylvania and his brothers, John W. Frey of Knoxville, Tennessee and Edward Frey, of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, as well as a miscarried grandchild and great-grandchild.
Bob is survived by his wife Eileen, his daughters Amy (Brad Shober) and Kerry (Shawn Gable) of Reinholds, his five grandchildren: Brady Shober (Aleesha), Cameron Shober, Jett Shober, Delaney Gable, and Cole Gable, and his two great-grandchildren: Nova and Nora Shober.
A visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, November 5th from 6:00-8:00pm, with a celebration service held on Friday, November 6th at 10:00 a.m., both held at the Gravenor Sipler Funeral Home, 100 W. Main St, Ephrata, PA 17522.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in Bob’s honor to the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy (www.centralpaconservancy.org) or the Northern Lancaster County Game and Fish Protective Association, 180 Forest Rd, Denver PA 17517.
