Rose M. Leachey

Rose M. Leachey, born on January 29, 1949, in the Bronx, New York, passed away on August 1, 2025, at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy. She was the daughter of the late Antonio and Mary (Marino) Aponte, and is survived by her husband, Jerry E. Leachey.

Rose devoted her career as an aid for Community Services Group of Lancaster, where her compassionate spirit greatly impacted those she served. Rose's life was enriched by her deep faith as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her commitment to her church was evident in her numerous contributions. She served as a leader for the Ephrata Girl Scouts, sharing her guidance and nurturing the next generation. Additionally, Rose flourished as a church camp director for nine years, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for children and families in her community. She was a dedicated member of her community and a loving mother and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry A. Angstadt; two sons, Gary L. Shirker Jr. and Steven R. Shirker; stepdaughter, Jen Holloway; stepson, Josh Leacheyher; beloved granddaughter, Gabrielle E. Angstadt; a brother, Rey (Hope) Aponte; and seven nieces and nephews. Rose was preceded in death by her former husband, Gary L. Shirker, and her sister, Mary Ann Wagner.

In memory of Rose, a viewing will be held on August 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gravenor Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 100 W. Main Street, Ephrata, PA 17522. There will be an additional viewing on August 7, 2025, starting at 10:00 AM, followed by her funeral service at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1136 Sunwood Ln, Lancaster, PA 17601. Rose’s final resting place will be at Bergstrasse Cemetery in Ephrata.
