Sandra Lee Wolf (née Gerhart) passed away peacefully on August 20 at Ephrata Manor. A devoted mother, a loyal friend, and a talented cook and baker with a gift for bringing people together, she brought her tremendous energy and attention to detail to everything she did. She was 84.

The daughter of John and Verna Gerhart, Sandy (as she liked to be known) graduated from Ephrata High School, where she won the Latin and math prizes and was elected Prom Queen. She graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology. After marrying, she and her husband, Jesse Wolf, lived briefly in Florida before settling in the Ephrata area. She began working as a lab technician at Lancaster General Hospital, but she also made time to develop her cooking techniques. Her kitchen repertoire extended from cookies and pies, including her famous onion pie which was mentioned in The Ephrata Review, to elaborate holiday meals that took weeks of preparation. For Sandy, cooking was both a creative outlet and an expression of love. When her children were born, she left the medical profession to operate a catering business with her friend, Dorothy Rauch. She later resumed her medical career at the hospital, where she worked until retiring. After the death of Jesse in 2014, Sandy remained active and curious, organizing events for her seniors group, playing cards, and attending talks at the Ephrata Library. She also read books that had been challenged at local libraries, so she could form her own opinions about them. In addition, she enjoyed shows at EPAC, where she had worked as an usher in high school, and movies and opera broadcasts at Penn Cinema.

She is survived by her brother, Jeffrey Gerhart, sons Eric and Kirk Wolf, grandsons Lewis and Henry Wolf, and many beloved extended-family members and friends.

Services will be provided at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ephrata Public Library or the Ephrata Area Education Foundation, in keeping with one of Sandy's personal mottos: “One hundred years from now, the world may be a little better because I was important in the life of a child.”
