Vernon J. Leininger

Vernon J. Leininger, age 87, of West Cocalico Township, Reinholds, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, December 9, 2014, following a brief illness. Born in West Cocalico Township, a son of the late C. Warren and Sallie H. (King) Leininger, he was the husband of Allegra H. (Kreiner) Leininger for 66 years. Vernon graduated from Cocalico High School and studied agriculture at Penn State University, State College, PA. He was self-employed in the agricultural field his entire life and was a Master Farmer. His memberships include Mohler Church of the Brethren, Future Farmers of America, Lancaster County Poultry Association, EAY Farmer, PA Poultry Federation, and was past president of the Reinholds Lions Club. He enjoyed woodworking, showing sheep at the PA Farm Show as a 4-H member, and especially driving his John Deere Gator around the neighborhood. Also surviving are his sons, Philip C., married to Connie (Showers) Leininger, Ephrata; and Michael K. Leininger married to Deborah Barry-Leininger, Denver; daughter, Rose Ann Leininger, Cleveland, OH; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Erla Mae Levenson, Moravian Manor, Lititz. A son, David V. Leininger, and grandson, Christopher Michael Leininger, predeceased him. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 10 AM from Mohler Church of the Brethren, 21 East Mohler Church Road, Ephrata, PA 17522, with Pastor Carl L. Brubaker officiating. Burial will follow in Blainsport Cemetery. Viewings will be at the church on Monday from 6 to 8 PM and Tuesday from 9-10 AM. Contributions may be sent to his church.
