Curtis “Al” Mannon, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 at Brethren Village in Lancaster. He was the husband of Patrica (Moody) Mannon who passed in 2011, and the father of Tom (wife, Kim), Jim (wife, Colleen), Steve (wife, Juana), Bruce, and Sandra (husband, Dennis). In his last years Al enjoyed the companionship of his dear friend Jean Eiding. Al grew up in Wilmington, Delaware and attended Wilmington High School. From there, with some help from the Navy he went to the University of Delaware to study engineering. He later earned a Masters degree in quality control engineering at Rutgers University. He spent most of his career at RCA, first in Somerville, NJ, then relocating to Lancaster after discovering the special attraction of the beautiful county. His work took him to many places here and abroad, involving many projects, including engineering contributions on cameras that probed ocean depths and those that took pictures from the lunar rover. Al’s passions were reading, playing bridge and chess, and being at family gatherings amongst his 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren . Now he is in a place where he can explore some of the wonders of the heavens and universe, pursuing his lifelong interest in astronomy.
