Shirley A. Kring, age 85, of East Cocalico Township, Denver, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, formerly of Mohnton, Berks County, died Wednesday, January 22, 2014, in Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading, Berks County, PA. Born in Shillington, Berks County, PA, a daughter of the late Luther and Grace (Barthold) Hartz, she was the wife of Paul E. Kring for 64 years. Shirley graduated in 1946 from Shillington High School and worked as volunteer coordinator at ManorCare Sinking Spring and as a teacher"s aide with Governor Mifflin School District. She was a member and on the altar guild of Peace United Church of Christ, Swartzville, and was a former longtime member of Allegheny United Church of Christ, Alleghenyville, Berks County, PA. Bird watching, flower gardening and traveling gave her much pleasure. Also surviving are her sons, Jeffery Kring, Mohnton; Joel A. (Linn) Kring, Wernersville; and Jamie P. (Cheryl Dirks) Kring, Leesport; grandchildren, Laura & Jason Kring; step-grandchildren, Stephanie Shunk, Darrin Weaver, Rochelle Allgyer & Derrick Lush; sister, Barbara (Jerome) Behney; and brother, Thomas (Donna) Hartz, both of Wernersville. A memorial celebration of Shirley's life will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 7:00 PM from Peace United Church of Christ, 37 East Swartzville Road, Denver, PA 17517, with her pastor, The Rev. William E. Hoch, officiating. The family will greet friends following the service. Rather than flowers, contributions may be sent to Peace church.
