Richard L. Kachel

February 11, 1947 — March 28, 2024

Richard “Dick” L. Kachel, 77, of Reinholds, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024, at Spruce Manor Nursing & Rehab in West Reading. Born in Brecknock Twp., Dick was a son of the late Leroy H. and Esther M. (Remp) Kachel and the loving husband to Verna L. (Anderson) Kachel for 55 years.


Dick was a graduate of Garden Spot High School, class of 1965. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served honorably in the U.S. Army where he drove transport trucks supplying fuel to the aviation battalions. Upon returning from his active duty, he met the love of his life, Verna. Dick has remained active in the Reinholds VFW Post 6759 where he served as former Post Commander and was a life member. He was also a Life Member of the VVA (Vietnam Veterans of America) and an advocate for agent orange survivors. Dick was a lifelong truck driver; he drove for over 45 years with over 2 million miles of accident-free driving. He retired from his driving career with Martin Limestone. He was an active member of Salem E & R Church in Reamstown where he was a former Deacon and Elder, served on multiple committees, and sang in the choir. An avid outdoorsman, Dick was a member of the ‘Pappy’s Nine’ cabin in Potter County where he enjoyed hunting. Dick usually had a joke to tell, and everyone enjoyed his contagious laughter. He loved his role as Pop Pop and always felt blessed to see his grandchildren and great grandchildren.


In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by a son, Brian L. Kachel of Ephrata; two grandchildren Zachary T. Kachel (Amber) of Ephrata; Madison T. Kachel (Curtis Hershey) of Lebanon; two great grandchildren, Karson & Braelynn; a brother, Donald L. Kachel (Betty) of New Holland; and a sister Esther E. Grumbling of New Holland. Dick was predeceased by two sisters, Dolly L. Ensinger and Marie Ann Walker and a brother, Paul H. Kachel.


Viewings will be held on Wed., Apr. 3rd from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thurs., Apr. 4th from 9 to 10 a.m. at Good Sipler Funeral & Cremation Centre, 34 N. Reamstown Rd., Reamstown (Stevens). The Service will begin at 10 a.m. on Thurs., officiated by Reverend Joel Hertzog. Interment will follow in Salem Union Cemetery, Reamstown.
