Erma Clara Straub

Erma Clara (Brand) Straub, age 94, born April 29, 1921, in Lansdale, Mongomery County, Pennsylvania,the third child of Howard and Daisy (Garis) Brand, died peacefully on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at 10:40 am, in Ephrata Manor, Ephrata, Lancaster County, PA. Erma graduated from Lansdale High School, andoften talked fondly of the time Adolph and she 'courted.' Jitterbugging and parking under the street light in front of her home were two of the highlights of that time period. She and her husband of 56 years, Adolph L. Straub, who died in 1998,lived in Lansdale for many years before moving to Cocoa Beach, FL, in 1995. In 2007, Erma moved to Reamstown, PA, to be near her daughter, Barbara. A devoted wife and mother, she was also a good neighbor and friend. Erma worked in the elementary school cafeteria and the community swimming pool concession stand. She and her husband enjoyed collecting and selling antiques and depression glassware at flea markets. She swam over 100 miles at the Lansdale YMCAand continued to swim a mile every day in Floridauntil the age of 85. Erma moved to Ephrata Manor in 2010 where she enjoyed the company of the other residents and participating in varied activities, including BINGO and bocce ball. She will also be remembered for loving to sleep on the floor. Surviving is her daughter, Barbara E., married to Donald H. Olsen, Reamstown; her sister, Shirley Fisher, Lansdale; and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by a daughter, Sandra Dean, and brothers, Lamar and Paul Brand. Private arrangements were handledwith the guidance of Good Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Reamstown. Inurnment will be in Whitemarsh Memorial Park, Ambler, Montgomery County, PA.
